What is Exploring the Trades?

Exploring The Trades is a unique Dual Credit program offered in Semester 1 and 2, that takes place daily at Conestoga College. Registered students learn Carpentry (2 credits), Electrical/HVAC (2 credits), or Welding/Plumbing (2 credits), or Culinary (2 credits), or Baking (2 credits) skills in a “hands-on” environment. Students are offered the opportunity of earning four credits, while at the same time gaining introductory courses at the College. In addition to the 2 College Dual Credits, students participate in a 2-credit Co-op experience with an employer.

Plumbing and Welding DC courses

  • 1 day in the shops (each week)
  • College pass 55% = future exemption
  • Professor + D.C. teacher assistance

Electrical and HRAC Dual Credit Courses

  • 1 to 2 days/week; Attendance marked
  • College pass 55%
  • 70% = Potential exemption from future programs
  • Professor + D.C. teacher assistance
  • Theory based. Up to 45 min. per day

Baking…

  • 1 day in the kitchen each week
  • College pass 55% = future exemption
